All serigraphs shown below were designed and hand-pulled by me. I use a water-based glue for block out on organdy screens (which I prepared and stretched.) I use a single screen for each work regardless of how many colors appear in the final serigraph.
After a color is pulled (and while the serigraphs are drying) I clean the screen with lacquer thinner or acetone. Any water-based glue on the screen is not removed by either of those solvents.
Once the cleaned screen dries I carefully brush glue onto all the areas that will remain the color just previously pulled. The glue "blocks out" those areas so inks pulled over the screen do not penetrate the glue and hence do not "print" the blocked out areas. After each color is pulled the screen is cleaned, glue block out applied and then the next color is pulled. When the final color is pulled, it is the only area of the screen that is not blocked by glue.
Upon completion of each serigraph's limited edition, I destroy the screens.
Because designing and hand-pulling serigraphs is very labor intensive, most of my serigraphs are in editions of 30 or less and never more than 60.t.
